A Victorian silver sugar bowl, George Fox, London.


DESCRIPTION

Circular, in an 'Oriental' style, flat-chased with foliate-filled panels and borders, on a domed foot similarly chased, applied with dragon scroll handles, fully hallmarked at the rim beside one handle in the flat-chased border.

c. 1878.


NOTES

As silver came home from the Far East and India at this period, a taste for this style grew in Britain, hence a number of tea sets and other domestic silver items may be found, sometimes very closely following Indian models, which were made predominantly in London and Glasgow for the home market.
