A repousse silver bowl in Burmese style
DESCRIPTION
Thailand with Ramayana scenes around the sides in relief
DATE
c. 20th century
NOTES
The style of this bowl is typical of Burmese silver of the late 19th century, but I agree that on closer inspection it is indeed Thai. The confusion has come about because it is a very late piece, in terms of antique objects, and nowadays, with much imitating going on, there is considerable overlap of styles. Also of course there is the obvious point that Burma and Thailand are neighbours. I have guessed the size at about 6in diameter.

Extra Notes
This looks to come from Burma or somewhere close on the Malay peninsular but certainly not from Persia. The detail and quality of the decoration look good. The marking to the underside will refer to the maker but most of these remain unknown.
